How the best how-to posts are built

A strong how-to post starts with a clear promise. It tells the reader what they’ll learn, who it’s for, or what pain it will fix.

The hook often uses a gap, like “most people do this wrong,” or a clear result, like “here’s the roadmap.” That stops the scroll because the reader can picture the payoff right away.

Use this format when you can teach a process, checklist, tool stack, mindset shift, or before-and-after workflow. It works well for AI, design, hiring, career growth, marketing, and product topics.

Then make the body easy to scan. Use short lines, steps, and plain words. If there’s a resource, add it near the end or in the first comment.

The common mistake is trying to teach too much. One post should solve one problem. Save the rest for a repost, carousel, or follow-up post.

How we prompt AI is very different in 2026 than 2022 when ChatGPT came out.

I'm teaching a new course, AI Prompting for Everyone, to help you become an AI power user , whatever your current skill level.

It covers skills that apply across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other AI tools. How to use deep research mode for well-researched reports on complex questions. How to give AI the right context, including more documents and images than most people realize you can provide. When to ask AI to think hard for several minutes on important decisions like what car to buy, what to study, or what job to take. And how to use AI to generate images, analyze data, and build simple games and websites.

I also cover intuitions about how these models work under the hood, so you know when to trust an answer and when not to.

Along the way, you'll see flying squirrels, a creativity test, some of my old family photos, and fireworks.

If you feel stuck because you don’t know how to design the life you want, this is exactly how you do it:

Stanford University professors Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, creators of the popular Designing Your Life course, have three simple questions - inspired by design thinking - to help you figure out what you really want.

These questions help you imagine different versions of your life - and help you stop obsessing over one “right” path.

When you expand your vision of what’s possible for yourself, you gain the clarity and the confidence you need to write a new chapter filled with more happiness, excitement, and meaning.

In today’s episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, Bill and Dave are giving you practical tools to find your purpose and design a life that makes you feel proud and fulfilled.

“How to Live a Meaningful Life & Design the Future You Want” - tune in now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube - search “The Mel Robbins Podcast Meaningful Life.” I’ll also link it in the comments!

Why it works: Promises actionable steps and quotes expert sources to enhance credibility.

Hiring for experience is lazy.

Anyone can scan a résumé.

Great leaders hire what can’t be taught.

Skills can be taught.

But attitude. Drive. Passion.

That can’t be faked.

The mistake most leaders make:

They hire proof of the past...

and miss potential for the future.

Here’s what actually builds great teams 👇

1. Curiosity over credentials
Experience shows what was done.
Curiosity drives what’s next.

2. Resilience over résumés
Every role has storms.
Hire the ones who rise stronger.

3. Ownership over titles
Not "That’s not my job."
Only "I’ll take care of it."

4. Passion over polish
Skills fade without fire.
Passion fuels the hard days.

5. Attitude over aptitude
A good attitude lifts a team.
A bad one poisons it.

6. Growth mindset over "I know it all"
The best hires aren’t done climbing.
They’re hungry to keep going.

7. Integrity over image
Anyone can look good on paper.
Few can be trusted in reality.

Because in the end:
The right person can learn the job.
The wrong person will destroy the culture.

Hire for character.
Train for skill.
Build for the future.

Resumés don’t build legendary teams.
People do.

Don’t tell designers ‘what to design’

Tell designers what design should solve

Design isn’t making something ‘look right’

It’s about making the right thing exist

If you want exceptional design

Share the problem

Then trust design to solve it

AI isn’t coming. It’s already here.

If you’re not using AI tools in your daily workflow yet, you’re probably spending more time than you need to.

I recently came across this powerful breakdown of AI tools across different categories, and it really shows how AI is transforming every part of work:

→ Presentations

→ Chatbots

→ Email assistance

→ Coding

→ Spreadsheets

→ Image & Video generation

→ Writing

→ Workflow automation

→ Graphic design

→ Data visualization

→ Meeting notes

→ Scheduling

→ Knowledge management

Whether you're a founder, marketer, developer, designer, student, or corporate professional, there’s an AI tool that can make your life easier.

Here’s what I’ve personally realized: AI doesn’t replace professionals. It amplifies them.

The real advantage now isn’t just working hard, it’s knowing how to work smart with the right tools.

Start small:

→ Automate one repetitive task.

→ Use AI to brainstorm ideas.

→ Speed up content creation.

→ Simplify reporting.

Productivity compounds.

The worst feedback a designer can get?

"Looks great!"

At first, it feels good.

But over time, it starts to feel empty.

More like a participation trophy.

A default response with no meaning.

Why it works: Reframes common feedback as a problem, prompting actionable reflection.

Design used to mean ‘making things’

Now it means ‘shaping’ what AI makes

Design was deeply manual

Manual component sets

Manual frame layout

Manual prototype noodling

Manual handover docs

AI now generates this in seconds.

What’s left is the hard part.

Deciding what works

What doesn’t

What actually helps people

What should exist at all

It can feel unsettling.

But as design becomes cheaper and fasterz The value of good design goes up.

Good designers aren’t being replaced.

They’re being promoted

🚨 I spend dozens of hours every month learning AI…

But I keep coming back to one conclusion:

This is still one of the BEST learning paths for anyone entering AI in 2026.

Just 9 Stanford lectures.

No fluff. No fake AI guru tactics. No “become an AI expert overnight” nonsense.

Just real fundamentals taught by Stanford professors.

Here’s the roadmap 👇

Lecture 1 - Transformer: [link]

Lecture 2 - Transformer-Based Models & Tricks: [link]

Lecture 3 - Tranformers & Large Language Models: [link]

Lecture 9 - Recap & Current Trends: [link]

The people who truly understand AI…

Don’t just learn tools.

They learn: 🧠 How models think ⚙️ How transformers work 📚 How LLMs are trained 🚀 How AI agents operate

Because tools will change every few months. But fundamentals stay valuable for years.

Start understanding LLMs from the experts.

Watch each lecture step by step. Take notes. Build small projects while learning.

SEO agencies are DEAD.

I fired my $20k/mo agency and asked Claude to do it.

Instead of my lame agency executing on helpful content, building links, and driving SQLs that gave us positive ROI for years, I now get:

• 40-page useless audits
• 145 random keyword clusters
• 19 AI-generated slop roadmaps
• 677 AI articles published leading to a spam penalty
• Get to rely on my own intuition based on zero experience
• Do all the work myself instead of running the actual business
• Pray that the strategy Claude made in 1 second is perfectly tailored to me

Revenue is down 87% but the charts look incredible!

Why it works: Strong declarative claim with contrast between before and after to create curiosity and disbelief.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 5 3 2 rule on LinkedIn?

The 5 3 2 rule is a simple way to balance your LinkedIn content. For every set of posts, share more helpful content than self-promo. A common version is useful posts, personal or human posts, and promo posts. For how-to content, this means most posts should teach first, then point to your offer only when it fits.

How do I create a template on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn doesn’t give you a built-in post template tool for normal text posts. The easiest way is to save your own LinkedIn post template text in a doc. Keep sections for the hook, problem, steps, proof, and close. Then copy it into LinkedIn and edit the wording so it sounds natural.

How do I add a format to a LinkedIn post?

Use line breaks, short sentences, bullets, and a clear close. LinkedIn posts don’t need fancy formatting to work. Start with the hook on its own line, then add the steps with spacing. If you want a LinkedIn post template mockup, draft it first in a doc so you can see the shape before posting.

What is the 4 1 1 rule on LinkedIn?

The 4 1 1 rule is another content mix idea. It means sharing several helpful or curated posts for every direct promo post. For a how-to post, use this as a reminder to teach often. When people get value from your posts, they’re more likely to read, save, comment, and check your profile.

Where can I find a Linkedin how to post template free?

You can use this page as a free starting point. Each LinkedIn template is based on real examples from the page, so you’re starting with a proven shape. If you want to move faster, pair it with a LinkedIn post template generator, then edit the draft in your own voice before publishing.
